Cleaning Your Tent

Cleaning your tent thoroughly is necessary after every use, not only to ensure that musty smells don’t greet you when you next pull the tent out of the bag, but also to prolong the lifespan of your outdoor home.  Cleaning your canvas after a trip away is often seen as a boring and monotonous task , that’s why we’ve created this fool-proof guide to making it as painless a job as possible. Follow our key points and it’ll be clean and packed away before you know it.

Step One: Cleaning a tent thoroughly is only possible if the tent is pitched and the weather is dry. Once the tent is up use a soft brush and dustpan to sweep up any dried mud and dirt from the inner tent and ground sheet.

Step Two: Use warm, soapy water (or a recommended product, such as Fabsil) and a soft cloth to gently wipe clean the ground sheet, inner tent and fly sheet.

Step Three: Allow your tent to dry in the sun. Once thoroughly dry pack away, re-proof your tent if necessary. See our guide to reproofing for more advice.

Whilst cleaning your tent you can also take the opportunity to check for any missing parts or damage to your product. Nothing can be more frustrating than arriving at your camping trip to discover you’re missing a pole or another vital part. Cleaning and packing away your kit thoroughly is the best way to ensure you’re all set for your next trip away.
